About
Kimia Kazemi is an Iranian writer, director, and producer based in Berlin, Germany. With a background in photography and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Europe for Applied Sciences, her filmmaking is rooted in visually driven storytelling and a deep engagement with cinema as a sensory medium. She approaches film as an immersive experience, prioritizing image, sound, movement, light, and color as core narrative elements, and is drawn to creating surreal, psychologically charged worlds.
During her studies, Kazemi focused her research on the poetic language of Iranian cinema while directing two short films, Neighbour’s House (2019) and Goli (2021). Neighbour’s House screened at Arsenal Cinema as part of the university’s Film and Motion Design program, while Goli was selected at multiple international festivals and received several awards. In 2020, she completed an internship at the Farabi Cinema Foundation, Iran’s leading film industry institution.
In 2024, Kazemi was offered admission to the UCLA MFA program in Film Production and Directing. Remaining in Berlin due to visa delays, she shifted her focus toward independent filmmaking and the development of her directorial voice. She wrote, directed, and produced Crimson Unveiled, her debut short film and first project working fully as a director on set. The film embodies the bold, surreal, and psychologically immersive style that defines her work and is currently completed and preparing for its festival run.
Alongside Crimson Unveiled, Kazemi is developing several feature-length screenplays as she continues to build her career as a filmmaker.
